DRIE-D's activities in this area can be summarised as 'doing the difficult jobs'. We for example provide arc chutes for electrical power switches that not only are exposed to peak temperatures of up to 2000°C, but also must be able to withstand the almost explosive blast when the sparks extinguish. Other critical products we supply are materials for glass handling, that must have exactly the right mix of properties to prevent the glass from cracking from thermal shock and from scratching because of the wrong surface properties and also must last.
